What’s Wrong with My Car’s Air Conditioning – Downey Auto Repair

It’s that time of year again, when the sun is out, and the temperature goes up. Thankfully, your vehicle has air conditioning. At least, we hope that’s the case and your AC is still blowing nice, cold air. There’s not much worse than driving around in the summer heat without air conditioning, especially if you have to drive in slow traffic. The good news is you don’t have to live with a broken or poor-working AC. Just come see us at Glenn’s Auto Service in Downey and we’ll take care of you and that faulty AC.

Summer officially starts this weekend, which means July and August are just around the corner. That’s when the heat really picks up. So, if your car, truck, crossover, van or SUV is having AC problems, then don’t wait till the heat gets here to take care of it. Come into Glenn’s and let us get it fixed now.

Why Is My AC Blowing Hot Air?

If your AC is having issues, there are a few different reasons it might not be working right.

Not Enough Refrigerant – the most common cause of AC problems is low refrigerant. If you don’t have enough refrigerant your AC isn’t going to blow cool air. Vehicles can run low on refrigerant after a long period of time, but usually, if it’s low there is a problem somewhere. So, if your vehicle is low on refrigerant, just bring it in to Glenn’s to find out what’s causing that to happen.

AC System Leak – obviously, the most common reason for low refrigerant is a leak somewhere in your AC system. However, it’s difficult to find refrigerant leaks. Refrigerant isn’t like other leaks in your car. When it leaks it evaporates, so you won’t see a puddle of liquid anywhere. You can listen for any unusual sounds coming from your AC, which could be a sign of trouble. Another sign to pay attention to is your AC continually cycling off and on.

Bad Fan Motor – another issue that can cause AC problems is a bad fan motor. If your fan motor breaks down your AC isn’t going to function right. However, that’s not the biggest problem with a bad fan motor. It could lead to an overheated engine, and that could leave you stranded somewhere on the side of the road. So, make sure your fan motor is in good working condition. That will make a big difference in your AC system functioning right and your engine staying cool.
