Can you believe it’s already summer again? Hopefully your summer is off to a great start. If you’re like a lot of people, then you probably have some road trips planned in the near future. Road trips can be a lot of fun, but only if you have a comfortable vehicle to travel in.
Of course, summer is a great time of year whether you travel or not. But either way, you probably depend on your vehicle a lot. So be sure to give it the proper attention in between all the fun. The hot months of summer can take their toll on your car. If you’re not careful, it won’t be able to get you where you want to go. In other words, just because you get vacation time this summer, your car doesn’t.
Easy Summer Maintenance and Service
The good news is getting your vehicle ready for summer isn’t that hard. Just dedicate a little time to take care of it.
Engine Belts – when was the last time you checked the serpentine belt lately? That’s the belt that runs between the alternator, the fan, and a few other parts. If it’s worn out it will lose the proper amount of tension. It might start squealing and it could break. So, if you notice any missing pieces or cracks in the belt, get it replaced.
Air-Conditioning System – driving without AC in the summer is unbearable. If your AC is older, it could be leaking Freon. That means your AC won’t blow cold air. You might be able to fix it with a leak-sealing product and refrigerant recharger. But if that doesn’t work, then our technicians will find the right solution.
Coolant System – speaking of staying cool, this is the season when your engine tends to overheat. So, make sure your cooling system is functioning correctly. Check the coolant fluid level and inspect your hoses and reservoir. Also, look for leaks throughout the entire system. And lastly, check your hoses for firmness. They should not be squishy or soft.
Other Essential Fluids – you should also check all other fluids, including brake, oil, power steering, and windshield-washer fluids. Your vehicle uses them more than you realize, so make sure they are at the proper level.
Brakes – and speaking of brake fluid, this is a good time to check your entire brake system. If they seem soft or feel spongy, then you should probably get new pads, and possibly new rotors, as well. You brake system might also need to be bled. It’s best to have our professional technicians do this for you.
Air Filter – summer is a good time to check your air filter, too. If it is dirty or clogged, buy a new one. Furthermore, if your car is newer, it probably has a pollen filter or cabin filtration systems. If so, then inspect these, as well.
